The Whitehouse Refurbishment

For years, my family and I have loved spending time in our garden summerhouse, which we call 'The Little Whitehouse'. It was a place to relax, read, play games, or just enjoy the peace and quiet. However, the harsh weather and general wear and tear had taken their toll. The railings were starting to rot, and the paint was peeling. It was clear we needed to do something to save it. With rising material and labour costs, I decided to tackle the job myself.

First, I took off all the bits and pieces, like hanging plant brackets, floodlights, and string lights. Then I had a good look at the damage. Most of the railings were knackered, so they needed replacing. After taking down the old railings, I bought some pressure-treated timber, 3600mm x 150mm x 47mm (6" x 2"), at £11.24 each. Cutting each piece to the right size and shape was a proper job, and I had to make sure the new railings were properly fixed to the decking and the Whitehouse. P.S. I forgot to take more pictures during the job, unfortunately.

Once the railings were up, it was time for a fresh coat of paint. B&Q had a 3-for-2 offer on all paints, so I picked up high gloss white to match the original colour. I gave the main body two coats and the new railings an extra one. The bright white really brought the Whitehouse back to life. After putting all the bits and pieces back on, I'm really pleased with how it's turned out. It's now a lovely space for my family and me to enjoy for years to come.

Some tips for refurbishing:

Make a plan of action.
Assess the damage carefully.
Be patient and take your time.
Use high-quality materials.
